Traveling for the Holidays: Jewelry Safety Tips with Jewelers Mutual

Can you believe we're already over a week into November? This time of the year definitely flies by with the holiday celebrations coming up! As the holidays approach, I'm sure many of you will be traveling to go see friends and family, or go on vacation.

Jewelers Mutual Insurance Company has been exclusively insuring jewelry for more than 100 years - they even offer repairs or replacement coverage for worldwide travel for all types of jewelry and watches. No matter how careful you are, accidents can happen! Having jewelry insurance will give you peace of mind and a backup plan, just in case.

Today I'm partnering with Jewelers Mutual Insurance Company to give you some tips on how to keep your precious jewelry safe while traveling! These tips come from their awesome blog.

Insure it!
With 80% of women bringing their jewelry on their travels - most common including engagement rings and watches - it's so important to have them insured! Especially since 25% lose a piece of jewelry during their travels! I've heard too many horror stories from friends who were boating or out on the ocean and they lost their ring to the depths of the sea, or had it stolen from their cruise ship cabin, etc. The risks are real, so being proactive and insuring the jewels is a must.

My most important pieces of jewelry.. you better believe I have them insured!

Travel to see, not be seen
It's perfectly okay to leave your fancy jewelry at home, locked in a safe place. I'm sure you guys have heard of Kim Kardashian's unfortunate experience in Paris, but let's face the facts - flaunting your worldly possessions only makes you a target! Try to pack or wear as few pieces as possible, and don't be too flashy!

Make a list
This is a great piece of advice! If you're bringing various jewelry, make a packing list (a physical one, send yourself an email, create a note in your phone!) of what you brought. That way, you can check in throughout the week and keep count of what you have, as well as before you leave your adventures! Another wise piece of advice is to document what you're taking with you via photo or video for proof of ownership.

Carry it on
NEVER put jewelry in your checked luggage! You just never know what could happen to it. Wear it or stow it in your carry-on bag so that it's with you at all times.

I hope these tips helped  inspire you to be extra cautious when you're traveling for the holidays, or just whenever! Jewelers Mutual Insurance Company cares about your valuable possessions. It's always better to be safe than sorry.

Happy (and safe!!) travels! xO
