The End of 2014

It is crazy to be writing this post, knowing that it is my very last one of the year! To some people, January 1st is "just another day". Which yes, it is, but I love to see it as a new beginning. A fresh start. 2014 was a really wonderful year, but I think it's appropriate to call it the "Year of Change" for Justin and me.

After living in Provo and going to school at BYU for three and a half years, I finished up my last semester in December a year ago. Justin and I packed up our first little apartment, and moved in with his parents closer to Salt Lake. I got my first post-college job as the intensive outpatient program coordinator at a counseling center. It was such a wonderful place, and I worked with some amazing people! Justin interned at the capital under a representative. We each braved the crazy morning commute going towards SLC, but it was a fun time! After Justin's internship ended, we walked for graduation, and had both of our families to see us! This weekend is when my sister in law announced her pregnancy, and Justin and I were ecstatic to become an uncle/aunt for the first time.
Justin then worked at his parents' neighborhood pool as a lifeguard for the summer. I continued to work as well, but we were able to take some time off to go to Japan to visit my mom's side of the family, then spend the Fourth of July with my dad's side of the family.

After a lot of prayer, thought, and visiting different law schools, Justin decided to accept a scholarship offer to the University of Oregon Law School. It was a little stressful to get to this point. We almost considered going to the University of Idaho (even paid the deposit!) but something just felt off. It was after that the U of O offered Justin a scholarship, as as soon as he got that letter, we knew we would be heading up to Eugene in the next couple months! We are very blessed. The rest of the summer was very chill. It was the calm before the storm, I guess you could say! It was hard to say goodbye to friends and family that we have been near for so long, but we packed up a big fat Uhaul and drove off to Eugene!

Justin got right into the swing of things, but I struggled for a couple months to find a job. It was so crazy stressful, not knowing where our next paycheck would be coming from (thank you to you readers who kept up even though I had several sponsored posts at this time-- funny enough, the two months I was unemployed were the months I made the most money off of my blog. What a blessing!). I got hired on at a couple temp places, but nothing ever worked out. It was a really hard couple of months for me. I felt like I wasn't good enough, that my education and qualifications weren't up to par, and I really started to doubt myself. I even turned down a job offer that I really wanted to accept, but I knew it wasn't the Lord's plan for me. Lots of tears were shed, but eventually I found a job (on Craigslist, no less!) that ended up being the perfect fit, and I seriously love it. It was worth the two months of being unemployed! It was actually a very humbling experience. Everything happens for a reason!

Life now is very simple. Justin goes to school, I go to work and cook dinner. We (try to!) clean our apartment on Saturdays, we hang out with our friends, we go to church. Sometimes I miss the hustle and bustle of Utah, but not enough to want to leave Eugene. I really like our simple life, and knowing that we are working towards a future goal! It feels really good.

So yep. Lots of change this year! 2015 will bring other changes, I'm sure, but I have a feeling it will be a more peaceful year (knock on wood). Thank you to all of you for following along for another year of Rachel Sayumi. You guys are theeee besttt!! :-)

I hope you all have a wonderful New Year's Eve, whatever you may be doing!

This sounds exactly like our life! My hubby is going to Pharmacy school and I am working at a law firm. Life gets hectic but I try to always stay positive and keep my spirits high! Church and prayer help out a lot too.... And I'm so happy I stumbled upon your blog at this time in my life too. It's so comforting to know I'm not alone! Sending you hugs all the way from sunny California, xoxo!
