How I Style Halloween Without Looking Halloween-y (+ a refashion story)

Phew, okay, sorry about the longgg post title. Hehe. But hey, Halloween is near!! One of the things I will miss most about being graduated form BYU is seeing all of the crazy costumes students will wear to campus. It's the best! While I do love dressing up and having fun, sometimes I feel weird going all out. So I'd rather celebrate, subtly. If you're like me, here is an idea for you of what to wear on Halloween without looking Halloween-y!

Black and orange are the obvious colors to wear for this holiday. But for my outfit, I decided to swap the orange for gold, and wear it with lots of black! The skirt I am wearing used to be a dress. I thrifted it, and it was so pretty! However, it was hard for me to wear since it was a tube-top style dress, and I just had no idea how to make it look cute. It mostly sat around in my closet for the past three and a half years, and it was due for a makeover!
wearing the dress in 2011 going out with girlfriends before we all headed out to sophomore year of college!

So yep, I hacked the dress and now I can wear it with more tops for different looks! And don't worry, I still have the adorable bow. I'm thinking I will make it so the bow can be pinned on the skirt, or off if I want a different look!

How do you guys style Halloween without looking too Halloween-y?
