A Beginner's Guide to a Boho Wardrobe

I have always loved clothes, but I never had a sense of personal style until very recently. I have been blogging for almost three years now, and I can honestly say my sense of style has grown tremendously. In high school and beginning of college, I used to just wear baggy sweats and tees all the time. I would put together random things and call it good. I kind of shudder when I think about it, actually. :P

One of my favorite styles is the boho chic style. I have always had a hard time grasping it because I had a mental block (I don't have long, blond beach waves, I'm not tall and skinny, I don't have hundreds of dollars to drop on Free People clothes, etc). But I've been inspired by Pinterest and other bloggers to create boho inspired outfits that don't break the bank. I know this must sound SO silly, but I seriously do love this style!

I'm still clearly an amateur, but there are a few elements that have helped me to boost the boho vibe in my every day outfits. Here are some things you should add to your wardrobe.. Boho made easy!

1. Headbands
Headbands really can help 'up' the boho vibe of an outfit. Plus, it can help hide imperfect hair... Win win!;)

2. Anything loose & crochet
Throwing this crochet cardigan over a floral dress made it look more boho-esque. I love that it's loose and comfortable! Throwing over a loose cardigan of any sort can help. Same goes with crochet!

3. Vests
Adding another layer onto a simple top can makes your outfit look more interesting! The looser, the better! I love how my shirts below are plain, but the whole outfit looks more fun with the vests!

4. Fringe
Fringe! I fell like fringe is the ultimate 'boho' element. Add it to anything, and you might as well be at Coachella ;) In the photo above, one of my vests has fringe on it. I love how it looks with the plain Jane top. Below, I added a fringe purse to my outfit. It's such a neat texture, and helps pull the outfit together.

5. Maxi
Maxi dresses and maxi skirts are staples in your boho journey! They are loose and carefree! Not to mention comfortable ;) With a maxi skirt, add a flowy top, or wear a fitted top with a vest or jean jacket over it-- you'll love the look and comfort!

6. Little Accessories
Little accessories go a long way in the boho wardrobe! Whether it's a dreamcatcher necklace, feathers in your hair, or turquoise jewelry galore, you'll be looking boho in no time with these fun pieces!

7. Hats
A fun fedora or a floppy hat can also hide messy hair ;) but it also adds a fun boho vibe to your outfit! I have a fun maroon hat, and I love the color it can add to an outfit while it looks cute and fun!

Mix and match these seven elements, and you'll be good to go! It's taken me almost a year to figure out what pieces I love and feel oh so boho in, but I love this style. I don't think it will go away anytime soon! ;)

You are so cute. I feel like I have two really strong, definitive senses of style...one of which is also more bohemian, and the other...which is more super-retro-fem. I fluctuate between wanting to wear long & flowing prairie dresses, and peter pan collars and polka dots! : ) So every day is an adventure over here -- what Bridget are you gonna get? ; ) I feel like you're spot-on for the fundamentals of a boho wardrobe -- it's all about layering!

You definitely rock the boho look! I would love to incorporate it into my style more, especially if I could wear it during the week!

Definitely great tips and all are really reasonable I feel.

I like the boho chic look myself, but I don't feel like I personally could pull it off (even if I do have the long, wavy hair). But you wear it well.

I love the idea of "flowy" clothing. Definitely boho, and headbands of course!
