Mustard is For the Birds

Happy Monday, friends! Today I'm guest posting on the Mindy Mae's Market blog! I am so excited!! Check out my post HERE. I'll be posting the same outfit to my my blog tomorrow, so come back for more details on that ! :)

If you've been reading my blog for the past few months, you know that I took a sewing class during my last semester of college (I am always so behind on my posts... oops..). I loved it SO much! It was early in the morning for hours at a time, but it was seriously the best class ever. I learned so much, and I learned that I LOVE sewing!! I was absolutely spoiled-- The sewing labs had the most amazing machines (Bernina 530's), high quality sergers, and all the coolest tools and gadgets you'd ever want for sewing.

We had a total of four big projects, and 20 little projects throughout the semester. The big projects were pajama pants, a skirt, a shirt, then the last one was our choice. My first two projects were not great. My teacher had me make child-sizes pajamas since I am short, but because of that, there was no room for my hips or booty. So they were a bust. Then for the skirt, I don't know what happened but the waist ended up being too large, and the hips too tight. I still got A's on both (thank heavens we didn't get graded for fit!), but it was sad to work on a project for so many hours, then for it to not fit. I'm just glad my last two projects turned out well. ;)

Today I am sharing the shirt I made! I wanted more of a dramatic Peter Pan collar, buuut I kinda screwed up, but that's okay. Sew and learn, yes?;) The best part of this shirt is that I wore it to work after I was done making it, and a girl asked me where I bought it! It's fun to wear clothes that you made. Check out my "Mustard is For the Birds" top!

Pattern: Butterick 6085, View B
Fabric: Birds = JoAnn, mustard = Hobby Lobby (leftover from my skirt project)
Buttons: Walmart
shirt: made by me || jeans: AE || Boots: Target
Have a wonderful day, and come back later this week to see my other sewing project! :)

I've always wanted to take a sewing class. I can do minor sewing, but to be able to sew actually clothes would be awesome!

That's really cute!! I love being able to sew/design my own clothing, it's such a fun skill to learn...and yep, there will always be mistakes along the way! I wish my college had had a sewing class!

I took a sewing class in high school that I really loved too. We made a pin cushion, stuffed animal, pj pants, sweatshirt, a skirt, and a tote bag. I wasn't very good at it but it was fun! The fact that you could make a shirt is phenominal! Great job Rachel! I think the idea is really cute too with your birds with contrast pocket and collar. I'd be proud!
