My Blogging Journey

Dear Readers,

Recently I have been reflecting on this little blog of mine. It has been over TWO WHOLE YEARS since I started this blog! What the craziness?! I don't even know how. I thought I would talk a bit about this blog.

My freshman year, I had the sweetest roomie, Natalie. She is just the greatest. Anyways, I knew that she blogged. I would chill in her room with her, and one day (April 2011), she had some blogs pulled up. Some of these included blogs like The Daybook, Thrifted Things, Wearing it On My Sleeves, just to name a few.I had never really thought what blogging was. Oh, boy, little did I know! I started to get hooked on these blogs. I mean, it was amazing how talented these women were. From putting together darling outfits to thrifting like a goddess to sewing and refashioning like there's no tomorrow, I was just truly amazed at what the blogging world could showcase. I would visit their blogs every day to see if they had a new post up.

After I had left for home for the summer, I still continued to read blogs. I found more and more, and eventually the whole "blogging world" was opened up to me. It was nuts! There are thousands of people who blog, and I had no idea! My favorite was when I'd find the blog of someone I knew in real life. Haha, that's the best. Anyways, I had a Blogger account for a while, since I read my aunt's private blog so I could keep up with my cousins who live far away.

One day, I decided to start my own blog. I called it 365 Days Till, because at this time in my life, I really really wanted to serve an LDS Mission. Back in the day (two years ago), women could serve at the age of 21. I was still 19. I had a year until I could start my mission papers, so I created a blog to occupy myself for those long months. I posted random things. I still remember my first follower-- Notes She Wrote. My second was Katherine from Thrifted Things (love her). It was fun; I originally started blogging about my weekend, cousins, funny things that happened at work, life in general... Then I started doing outfit posts. OH MAN. They were great. Unfortunately, my Picasa crashed a while back, so a lot of the photo's in my old posts have been corrupted. And I'm too lazy to go back and fix it all.. No thanks.. But here's a taste of my outfit posts:
I really was trying hard to dress "cuter". In high school, I gave myself two "allowance days" a week where I could wear comfy clothes (aka sweats + lazy shirt) as long as they were not two days in a row. So, I really was trying to make an effort to dress better. Blogs inspired me to do so.
Anyways, I basically worked two jobs all summer long, and I went off to my second year of college. I would take outfit pictures secretly in my bedroom. Now THOSE were quite lovely. I had some good days, but definitely had some bad as well. There are a few outfits that even I knew back then were just.... no. haha. Why am I so bizarre?
I'm not sure how people started finding out about my blog. My friend mentioned earlier, Natalie, was the first to know. Probably because I commented on others' blogs all the time, haha. My roommates eventually found my blog, and I was even able to recruit some of them to start taking pictures for me OUTSIDE! Now THAT was a big step forward! ;)

I slowly gained a following. People would say nice things. I was so intrigued by the little blogging world. The whole, "I don't know you, but I know everything about you" deal, haha. By the fall of 2011, I had "officially" started blogging. I changed my blog name to XOXO RACHEL SAYUMI, and things were taking flight! I attended my first blogger meet up (SO nervous!), did my first few guest posts, and all that fab she bang.

Early Spring of 2012, I met Justin, and we started dating. It's a funny story, actually, because we actually had a class together Fall semester of 2011. He says he remembers seeing me, and we even sat next to each other in class (I honestly don't remember that-- because I was always late to class and felt like too much of a nutcase to talk to anyone around me haha). Anyways, I guess he talked to his friends a little about me, and one of his friends recognized me from my blog. So, back to Spring 2012-- Justin and I hung out tons and had fun. He eventually started taking some pictures for me (thanks babe), and even got pulled into some of my posts, haha!

After we got married, I changed my blog name again to Mr. JP & Me, to incorporate our married life into it. While this was cute and all, since the blog is mainly a Rachel Project, and for privacy reasons, I decided to steer it back in a different direction. Which is why my blog is now, simply, RACHEL SAYUMI :) And I'm hoping that sticks around longer than my other blog names did. HAHA but who knows, right?!

So after several posts, several outfits, many many pictures, a few appearances on local television, many new blog friends, old friendships kept in touch, more sense of personal style, four blog name changes, several blog design changes, many collaborations, meet-ups with the cutest girls in town, and a creative-space-to-share-all-this later... We are here to the now. It's been a crazy but fun little journey!

What I'm trying to get at is, thank you. Thank you to those who have stuck around since the beginning, and thank you to those who have come in mid-journey. Thank you so much for the kind words support, comments, likes, follows, emails, words of encouragement, love, and friendships. I truly have enjoyed these past two years. You guys are what makes this so great, really. I can't wait to see where the next two years of blogging will take me. I'm actually taking a design class right now for fun, to teach myself some basic things to help prettify my blog. Who knows what is in store.

Thank you for everything, you guys are seriously the bestest.
XOXO

Oh, and on a later note-- What happened about me wanting to serve a mission? Well, it just started to fade away. Last October, the age that LDS youth can start serving missions was lowered. Females could start serving at the age of 19. This was announced just two weeks after we were married. I did have a strong desire to go, before I met Justin. However, it was a witness to me that I was supposed to stay and marry Justin. Why? Because I believe that if I really was supposed to serve, God would have lowered the age when I had that strong desire to serve. One and a half years is nothing in God's time, yet he waited for that revelation to be given to our Prophets after I got married. So that's that, and definitely no regrets on my part ;) Cuz, I mean, biggest sweetie ever. Luff him.

hahahaha your outfit pictures from when you first started blogging are soooo cute! i can totally relate. i used to be embarrassed of taking outfit photos so i would just secretly do it in my room without even posting them lmao. and then when i started my blog after getting married, i started asking jerry to take them and it was even more embarrassing! jerry probably thought i was so weird. i'm gld he's supportive now though and looks like justin is too :)

miss you rachel!

Oh man Rachel, some of those outfits!! I could hardly recognize you! I love that you made yourself dress up in high school but still gave yourself two lazy days. My mom wouldn't let me leave the house in sweats or pj pants. I thought I was dressed well a lot of the time in high school but looking back, I wasn't doing myself any favors!!

Congrats on two years! You've come a long way!
